The main aim of the 3 Diploma in Diet and Nutrition for the Complementary Therapist is to enable Learners to provide healthy eating advice for their clients whom they already treat for another therapy for the purpose of improving health and lifestyle 

Diet and Nutrition for Complementary Therapists 100

It is recommended that Learners should have achieved a level of education equivalent to five GCSEs at grades A*- C prior to commencing the Level 3 Diploma in Diet and Nutrition for Complementary Therapists.

However, exemptions may be made for adult returners with experience of the workplace   Learners must hold the pre-requisite of a therapy qualification 

Diet and nutrition CIBTAC diploma – 100 hours of study

This course comprises the following lessons

  1. Understand the structure and function of the organs and accessory organs of the digestive system
  2. Understand the process of absorption  
  3. Understand the process by which food stuffs are broken down by the alimentary canal during the digestive process  
  4. Understand the function and location within the digestive system of the following
  5. Understand the causes of the following diseases and disorders of the digestive system  
  6. Understand the interrelationship of the digestive system with other systems of the body
  7. Diet & Water   Understand the effect of external factors on dietary requirements
  8. Understand the function and effects of water in the diet  
  9. Understand the effects of dehydration on the body
  10. Carbohydrates   Understand the role of carbohydrates in the diet
  11. Fats/Lipids   Understand the role of fats/lipids in the diet
  12. Cholesterol   Understand the role of cholesterol in the diet
  13. Proteins   Understand the role of protein in the diet
  14. Fibre   Understand the role of fibre in the diet
  15. Vitamins & Minerals  Understand the role of vitamins in the diet
  16. Understand the effects of antioxidants
  17. Understand the role of minerals in the diet
  18. Nutritional Values   Understand the dietary/nutritional value of certain foods  
  19. Processing & Refined/Unrefined Foods
  20. Understand and explain the role of refined and unrefined foods
  21. Anti-Nutrients & Pollutants   Understand the role of common anti-nutrients  
  22. Understand the role of Environmental pollutants
  23. Intolerances, to be able to understand some of the problems that may be experienced in the digestion of gluten and the various disorders which may be associated with
  24. Obesity & Eating Disorders   Understand the condition of obesity, Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa
  25. Hypoglycaemia & Diabetes
  26. Eating Guidelines   Understand the importance of regular meals
  27. Nutritional Imbalance   Understand ‘common ailments’ related to nutritional imbalance 

You are also required to work with practice clients and compile case studies with a minimum of 5 clients and each to have an initial consultation and 3 follow up consultations.
